National Rally & Retired members conference updates

National Rally 9 December

The Union has called a national rally at 1.00pm on 9 December in Parliament Square, London. Already branches have pledged that over 10,000 CWU members will be attending the rally. The Union is asking branches from across the UK to arrange transport, where necessary, to ensure that members can attend. It’s very important that as many members as possible attend next Friday’s rally and whilst we recognise that some of our retired members may have mobility problems we hope that as many as possible are able to make it. This rally has an advantage for retired members with mobility difficulties because it doesn’t involve a march. The Retired Members Committee looks forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Friday. Our Union is engaged in its biggest dispute since the 1971 national strike and it is a dispute over the very survival of the Union and the future of our members. The Retired Members stand shoulder to shoulder with our working members who are determined to bring this dispute to a successful conclusion.

Retired Members Conference 2022

A very successful Retired Members Conference was held on Tuesday 15 November at CWU Headquarters. Over 100 delegates attended and numerous contributions were made from branches throughout the UK. The Conference discussed eight motions after two were withdrawn. A ballot was held to elect the Retired Members who will represent the section at General Conference 2023 and the two motions that will go forward from the Conference to this year’s Conference were also agreed. Two motions were not accepted onto the Agenda. Full details of the decisions taken will be sent to Branches so retired members are advised to contact their branches for further information.
